To use the transformative power of music to connect, enrich lives, and shift the artistic landscape to foster a culture of inclusion and social justice.
HISTORY
DMV Music Academy was founded by Executive Director and CEO, Don Johns as a series of percussion workshops in 2018 (formerly known as the DMV Percussion Academy). It featured many of the region’s finest performers and educators from major symphony orchestras, conservatories, Grammy-nominated drum-set artists, Caribbean steel pan artists, Latin percussion artists, and more.
- In 2019, the Percussion Academy formed partnerships with school districts, wellness centers, state and regional education orgs, percussion instrument manufacturing companies, and community-based corporations.
- In 2020, the organization expanded to include brass and woodwind instruments, and was renamed DMV Music Academy.

Our Music Academies feature ensembles, workshops, masterclasses, and instruction led by top faculty and performers throughout the region.
​
Our Professional Resident Ensembles perform concerts throughout the region and serve as academy mentors, teachers and clinicians.
